No Pressure is the debut EP by Ugandan Afro-pop and R&B artist Lamu (Ahlam Ismail), released under the record label Trend Setters. The seven-track project arrived on the back of her breakout single “Pata,” which had already earned heavy airplay across East African radio, and it built directly on the momentum she gained in 2019 when Nigerian artist Mr Eazi selected her through his EmPawa Africa programme as one of 100 rising talents across the continent. No Pressure is a love-themed project centered on relationships, carried by Lamu’s smooth, melodious vocal style and a sound that fuses R&B with Afrobeats. It features guest appearances from Nigerian rising artist Jinmi Abduls, Ugandan R&B artist Shawn Maine, and East African hitmaker Mugaba, positioning the EP as a genuinely regional project rather than a solely local one.
As a debut EP following a single breakout hit, No Pressure carried the pressure of proving Lamu wasn’t a one-song artist. That meant sustaining the momentum “Pata” built without simply repeating it, delivering a full body of work cohesive enough to hold together as a project rather than a scattered collection of singles, and doing so while still establishing her identity in a Ugandan music scene that already had a crowded field of rising female vocalists. Bringing in features from Nigeria, Uganda, and the wider East African scene also meant coordinating a genuinely regional rollout for an artist still early in her career, rather than leaning on one home market alone.
The project set out to establish Lamu as more than a singles artist, giving listeners a fuller picture of her voice and range across a cohesive, relationship-focused body of work. It aimed to capitalize on the visibility “Pata” had already built while introducing her to new audiences through her Nigerian and East African collaborators, and to reinforce her identity as a smooth, R&B-leaning voice in a scene often dominated by harder Afrobeats and dancehall sounds.
No Pressure succeeded in cementing Lamu as a name to watch in East African music, landing distribution on major platforms including Tidal, with backing visibility from MTN Uganda. It became a reference point in her career that press continued to cite years later, and it set the foundation for her follow-up work, including her later EP Infinity. The project remains one of the clearest early markers of her sound: gentle, melodic, and built around relationship storytelling, a signature she has carried through her subsequent releases.
